Pain killers; my mother’s lingerie,
Saran wrapped this terror of
vinegar in our mouths
and Beirut’s toddlers.

Overheard whispers of
razor blades in apples
dark spells
and raven drawn coffins.

Her migraines shrink the outside
to talking heads
and she withdraws to her attic
where Sci-Fi and a boy named
Weed live still.

If only in the cocoon
of half-buttoned sleep
she would finally manipulate fate
twist time
risking the shattering of
history and future
to set us free.
